OUR VISION

Where we are going

"We will be a lighthouse in the darkness
and a beacon of hope
for the poor, addicted, and afflicted
in the city and the marketplace."

Since the very beginning of the Fall, God has sought to rescue humanity from sin and death.  He told Abraham that through his children a blessing would come for the entire world (Genesis 12:1-3). Israel in the Hebrew Scriptures were asked to be a "light to the nations" (Isaiah 49:6).  The prophets of old had visions of the nations flooding to Yahweh God in worship.  The prophet Joel saw a day when the Spirit of God would fall on "all people" (Joel 2:28).

After Jesus arrived, and after his death - the payment for our sins - he was raised to newness of life.  He ascended unto heaven with the command to be his witnesses "to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8).  To be his witnesses is to be his light, shining in a dark world (Matthew 5:15-16).  Jesus himself is the blessing of Abrahm, the light to the nations, and through the power and ministry of his Spirit his people carry out this light-bearing ministry.

Like a lighthouse shining brightly on a stormy night, the church is to shine brightly with the Good News of Jesus in a dark world.  The hope of the Gospel is the beacon given to our city that surrounds us.  The church is not wise to consider a specific "demographic" within our city - rather, like Jesus, we aim to reach all that surround us - including the poor, the addicted, and all who are afflicted in this fallen world.

This vision is what we want to be, our conviction of where we are going as a church.
